VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
WILLYS-OVERLAND JEEP 475 STATION WAGON
3 speed manual with selectable four wheel drive
fitted with the standard jeep 'hurricane' engine aka F-134 Inline 4 cylinder 72HP 2.2L petrol
6 volt electrical system
Designed by Brooks Stevens, the Willys Station Wagon’s steel body was extremely easy to mass produce, and was in fact, the first all-steel, factory-built station wagon in North America, sharing the same basic platform as the well know wartime willys jeeps. The Willys Jeep Station Wagon was introduced by Willys-Overland in 1946, the same year in which it introduced the Universal CJ Series. Arguably the first sport utility vehicle in the world to gain mass appeal, the Willys Station Wagon lineup had much to offer, with four wheel drive, easy maintenance, ample space for its passengers, and safety beyond what other “woodies” (wood-bodied station wagons) offered at the time. By comparison, the success of the Willys Station Wagon overshadowed that of many other models offered by Willys-Overland from 1946-1964.
This particular jeep was originally from OHIO USA (please see photos for original 50s US plate, was brought over to Belgium in approx 1960. Booklet in hand containing Dutch road worthiness tests from 18/11/1960 to 25 sept 1964. Brought into the uk in 2016 now with 2 owners recorded since its arrival on uk soil.
This is a rare car and very sought after in the USA with a one reaching over $50,000 in a auction January this year. This jeep is believed to be the only wagon in the uk to date however there is no proof to back up this claim.
The jeep was restored in holland by a private individual.
Its been restored to a nice original/usable standard, It was a full body off resto, everything was stripped and rebuilt from the ground up with no expense spared and, there is evidence of some welding to a good standard taken place during the resto and is currently 100% rust free!
Panels are very straight with no visible dents.
Interior has been completely reupholstered/replaced and is in very good condition.
Registered as historic so the vehicle is tax and MOT exempt.
The engine is a reliable little, runs well once the cold start procedure is complete, recently had new leads, plugs, coil, oil and filter. The gear change is perfect, brakes are all functional. Steering is very smooth and light for a 50s vehicle. Its a very good car all round and a perfect addition for a collector. since being in the uk the jeep has had very minimal use and has been dry stored the whole time in current possession. Because of this I would advise a full inspection before being driven on the road.
**THERE IS NO FINANCE ON THE CAR AS MOTORCHECK STATES - I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE FINANCE COMPANY AND THIS IS LINKED TO A TANK CONTAINER AND HAS BEEN CONFUSED DUE TO SHORT CHASSI NUMBERS - A HPI REPORT HAS BEEN RUN ON THE REG AND IT IS CLEAR - NO FINANCE**
