Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino 1980

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

This Ferrari was an original right hand drive 1980 UK supplied model, chassis number 15338 being first registered on 8th May 1980. It is finished in Rosso Corsa Red with black leather interior and is fitted with the original 14” silver Compagnolo wheels.

The car is not in pristine condition so a perfectionist would soon be picking faults with it. The main reason being that it was used on a regular basis just as the car was designed to do hence it has done nearly 104,000 miles. However it could be said to be in very reasonable condition when the vehicles age is taken into account.

The car is being sold due to a change in circumstances where it is being used less and less so it is now time to let someone else have the chance of looking after it.

The car comes with a some spare parts for example:-

1. Four brand new retro classic 205/70 14 95V tyres ready to be fitted when the ones on the car wear out.

2. Unused to date, but purchased in 2018, a 12v 70Ah 570A Samson power battery.

3. New set of cam belts and tensioner springs.

4. New water pump/alternator belt plus a spare used one.

5. New air-conditioning belt plus a spare used one.

6. A new oil filter.

7. Two new headlamps plus spare used ones.

8. A new set of 8 No spark plugs plus a set of used ones.

9. Original anti roll bar removed from the car as currently a new up rated one has been fitted to the vehicle.

10. Other parts included and left in the boot.

The car comes with the 308 FNW number plate.

The provenance on this 308 GT4 is that it has had one owner for the past 29 years being purchased in January 1993 where the recorded mileage was 48,651 and there had been 8 previous owners prior to that date since new. Prior to 1993 there is very little service history.

The car has undergone a variety of mechanical and maintenance repairs all being documented and there is an extensive folder containing numerous invoices etc. to support its service history over the past 29 years. This includes invoices from Graypaul and multiple ones from Shiltech with many more receipts for parts etc. In addition there are years of MOT certificates and road tax documentation.

Items of note that have been carried out, although not necessarily listing all, are as follows:-

1. MOT’s issued every year since 1993. The current one runs until December 2022.

2. Cam belts fitted in September 2021 and oil service in October 2021 at circa 103,700 miles.

3. Car registered as Historic with DVLA in 2021 being over 40 years old so exempt from road tax.

4. Seats front and rear re-trimmed in 2017/18.

5. Suspension and new bushes etc. fitted in 2015 at circa 99,000 miles.

6. Complete engine rebuild in 2007 at circa 81,400 miles.

7. Stainless steel exhaust fitted in 1995 at circa 63,500 miles.

8. The car had a complete body re-spray in December 1995 and there have been other paint rectification works carried out over the years.

9. Complete clutch rebuild in 1994 at circa 51,000 miles. (No Invoice but a hand written parts list assumed to be what was required at the time is included with the documentation)

Areas of note that may possibly require attention / rectification, although not necessarily listing all, are as follows:-

1. There are, on a closer look to the exterior, some paint blemishes/stone chips and blistering/bubbles etc. The worst blisters etc. are more noticeable on some of the lower sections/underside of the body and particularly on the off side front wing.

2. On close inspection there is some very minor crazing to the silver finish of the road wheels, more noticeable to one in particular. The tread to the tyres are within the legal limit but the front near side is nearly at the limit. (Note there are four new tyres 205/70 R14 95V that are included in the sale, which can then be fitted when the existing ones wear out).

3. There are some cracks in the plastic light / indicator lens covers.

4. The air conditioning is not working and needs repair/attention/re-gassing. In addition the compressor has just started dripping hydraulic fluid so needs restoration and new gaskets.

5. There is a very minor oil leak, thought to be coming from the camshaft cover gaskets.

When the engine is started, after the car has been standing and has not been run for a long period of time, static can be heard from the cam belts and the tappets can be heard with one in particular being noisier. However they do quieten down when the engine warms up and the oil starts to circulate.

Also there is a minor discharge of burnt oil mostly from the offside exhaust pipes but this is diluted when the engine warms up and is put under load.

6. The valve clearances need to be checked and adjusted and the associated seals/gaskets replaced. These works are required as the last time the valve clearances were adjusted and seals/gaskets replaced was at circa 94,000 miles. In addition these works should rectify some of the items as identified in item 5 above.

7. The extended sacrificial end to the heater hose, which connects onto the engine block, needs replacing as it is weeping/drips coolant very slightly once the engine cools down. (Note a new section of hose is included and can be cut to the correct length and the two small existing jubilee clips can be reused). Minor seepage from the radiator has been rectified.

8. The fuel gauge does not work when there is less than half a tank of fuel on-board as the sender in the tank is faulty/worn and needs replacing/repair.

9. When lowered below half way the electric passenger window sometimes needs some assistance to get it to close again.

10. The clock works but cannot be set from the dash so to adjust the time the battery has to be disconnected and then reconnected at the desired time.

11. The boot lid will not stay open on its own as the spring needs replacing. Currently a cane is used to keep it open when putting things in and taking things out.
